External Rendering Coventry
External Render – Anti-Crack Systems
From historic and protected buildings to the most avant-garde architecture, some of the most exciting developments in building technology in recent years have been the improvement in anti-crack renders.
Today’s rendered finishes have improved in performance, life expectancy and attractiveness. At Gaffney and Guinan, our render solutions use reinforcement meshes. Furthermore, we also use polymer-based basecoats.
We supply a wide variety of rendered finishes suitable for all architectural settings. For example, our finishes range from vibrant ‘statement’ colours to pastel shades. From the very bold to the most subtle off-whites.
With an expansive range of colours and finishes, the choice is yours.
At Gaffney and Guinan, rendering is one of our key services. Rendering involves applying coating on the outside of your building. The coating helps to insulate and protect your home from rain.

Types of External Render
There are various types of external render which you can have installed. Which one you decide to go with may be a result of your aesthetic preferences
- Cement Renders – Cement render is the standard render for external rendering. We mix it on-site and then apply it in coats. We apply the last coat thinner and give it a good finish to ensure it’s ready for painting.
- Polymer Renders – we pre-mix material for polymer renders. The polymer rendering materials we use are lime and white cement. Next, we add plastic products into the mix. This is to improve crack-resistance and toughen the render.
- Acrylic Renders – Acrylic renders are normally used to create a good finish for your home. They are applied as a thin finish to seal the underlying coat and enhance its appearance.
- Monocouche Renders – Monocouche is a French word meaning “single-layer’ or ‘bed’. Monocouche renders are a new development in the rendering industry. It comes ready to mix with water. It is a single coat render which one can apply by hand or by machine. White cement is used, but it is normally coloured ahead of time in various shades. As it is only one coat, it is quicker than most types.
- Lime Renders – Lime plastering used to be more popular a long time ago. However, there has recently been a re-emergence of interest in lime renders. It is harder to install lime renders than other renders. This means lime render is more suited for renovation projects. Many companies now supply lime renders.
- Insulating Renders – We can use insulating render to refurbish a home. It is useful when external walls are poorly insulated or are deteriorating. Are your external walls causing water damage or leaking? External rendering can help.
How we can help
If internal insulation is too intrusive and difficult to install, external rendering is the perfect solution.
Insulated rendering includes rigid insulation. Rigid insulation is attached to the wall. Then, it is attached to a reinforcing mesh, a base coat and a finishing coat of the render.
